Update -  Ingrid Michaelson Wins International Competition (on technicality)

The good news is that the song was clearly well liked by many people around the globe.  A big thank you to all the international managers who enjoyed Ingrid Michaelson!

The bad news is that the "win" happened because the manager from Romania, whose song by received the most points, failed to vote.  This results in an automatic 12 point penalty, and this put the US and Ingrid Michaelson over the top.  The original score to Geta Burlacu was 117 points, but this fell to 105 points after the penalty, leaving Ingrid Michaelson at 110 points, the victor.

And the Winner, and the  June 2012 US entry to the Countdown is...

Ingrid Michaelson - "In The Sea"

:flowers: A big thank you to everyone who voted in the US preselection!

June 2012 US preselection for The Countdown International

@

Wildlife of America: the Pronghorn, also known as "Pronghorn Antelope"

The pronghorn is the fastest mammal in North America, and with a top speed of 70 to 100 kilometers an hour, it is the fastest mammal that can maintain its pace over a distance in the world. The cheetah is faster than a pronghorn, for short sprints, but after a few dozen yards, no animal in the world can match its pace.

The pronghorn has sharp senses to match its speed, most notably, giant eyes, nearly the size of those of an elephant, but on a body the size of a goat. With these giant eyes, the pronghorn can spot a suspicious movement nearly 5 kilometers away.

Although the pronghorn had become rare by the 1920's careful and consistent wildlife conservation efforts, one of the places where the United States most stands out as a nation, have returned the pronghorn to its rightful place, and approximately one million pronghorn roam the Great Plains today.

Welcome to the US preselection for the June 2012 edition of the Countdown!
As usual, the preselection contains a mix of songs intended to be interesting, competitive, or representative, listed in alphabetical order.
