Manchester Orchestra - "Virgin"
Manchester Orchestra is an American indie rock band which originated in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.
They are named after the English City Manchester, a place rich in musical history (The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Joy Division, Oasis, New Order, Happy Mondays). This name reflects the sense of alienation felt by the band's singer/songwriter and rhythm guitarist, Andy Hull, towards his school, and small-town local culture, at the time of the band's founding.
The music video for the song "Virgin" is unusual in that it was created as a an unrelated silent film, made for a school assignment by a fan named Ben Disinger. Disinger noticed that the video synched with the song, and approached the band at a tour stop in Rochester, New York to show them the result. Says the band:
"We were skeptical to say the least, but the more he talked about it, the more we were interested in actually seeing this thing...He pulled his laptop out and placed it on the steps to the bus. We were blown away. We put him in touch with our manager and for the last few months he’s been putting the finishing touches to this incredible piece. This is that rare moment when art expands further than first intentions or expectations. Where two different inspirations can coincide to create something better. "
