Beth Ditto - "I Wrote The Book"
Musically, Beth Ditto is best known for her work as lead singer in the band "Gossip". Ditto emerged from the "Riot grrrl" third-wave feminist punk scene, and still considers herself to be a punk, although she has lately expanded her range into the electronic dance music, like that featured today.
Beth Ditto who is a lesbian, is well known as a feminist, and as an outspoken gay rights advocate, and Gossip's breakthrough track "Standing in the Way of Control" focused on the opposition to gay marriage.
A fashion designer, Beth Ditto is fairly well known in the fashion world. Her punk look and sensibilities have appealed to a number of designers, and she worked as a fashion model, most recently opening the Jean Paul Gaultier spring fashion show.
Ditto is also outspoken in her advocacy for acceptance of different body types, and her work in fashion, where the non-thin are rare, as well as projects such as writing an advice column for the British newspaper "The Guardian" have made her a de-facto leader in the so called "fat acceptance movement."
